Hotaru is the reason why Mikan came to Alice Academy. Her Alice is Invention and her favourite subject is Nano Technology. In the shows, she appears to be cold and sometimes mean. However, really deep in her heart, she really cares about Mikan.
Hotaru is Mikan's best friend. She and Mikan have what may seem to be a doubtful and strange relationship. Hotaru comes off as cold, quiet, composed, and bad-mouthed. Her "stupid" points are her tendency of being a "pig" when it comes to food and her greedy side. Her Alice is Invention, which allows her to create unique and strange inventions.
Even though she is always calling Mikan "dummy", and treats her unkindly most of the time, she really does care for her and loves her. She is not very good at showing how she feels. Like Natsume, she is mostly poker-faced and rarely smiles.
Hotaru seems to have a serious humor about her, which is very entertaining. Not only is she the only one who knows how Mikan feels towards Natsume, she also happens to know who other students have feelings for.
She belongs to the Technical Class. She is currently a Triple Star.
